ncan support groups – nebraska chapter

Meet Julie
My name is Julie Riecken. I am a wife and proud mother of two young adult boys. I have been training manager at a software services company for the last 26 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Marketing and Management. I enjoy traveling, singing, and spending time with my husband and my boys.
In 2014, I started experiencing digestive issues. After lots and lots of tests, it was discovered that I have a Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor (PNET/VIPoma) with metastasis to the liver. Since then, I’ve had monthly treatments (Sandostatin), daily Octreotide injections, major surgery to remove the tumor, ablation, bland embolization, multiple hospitalizations for dehydration, and finally PRRT. I currently see a local oncologist in Omaha as well as a team of doctors (lead by Dr. Thomas O’Dorisio) at the University of Iowa. Throughout all of this, I have continued to work and live my life as normally as possible.
My goal is to connect NET patients in Nebraska so that we can discuss our common issues, provide tips, and have productive conversations. Since I was diagnosed, I have met several other people who were also diagnosed with NET. It would be helpful to come together to share our stories, struggles, and successes.
